The 8th International Conference of Tropical and Subtropical Green Building Council Alliance & 9th Cross-Strait Green Building Technology Development Forum was successfully held at Hong Kong Science Park

Themed by Green Building and Green Community for Sustainable and Resilient Human Habitats in Tropical and Subtropical Regions, The 8th International Conference of Tropical and Subtropical Green Building Council Alliance & 9th Cross-Strait Green Building Technology Development Forum was successfully held by China Green Building (HK) Council CGBC(HK) and Center for Housing Innovations (CHI) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong at Hong Kong Science Park from 16th November to 18th November. More than 300 experts, scholars, young students and teenagers from the mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan as well as tropical and subtropical countries gathered in Hong Kong to discuss issues related to resilient and the construction of a sustainable living environment. Prof. TSOU Jin Yeu, chairman of the conference, officiated at the opening ceremony and introduced the work and future vision of CHI and CGBC(HK). Zeng Fanxin, Vice minister of industry and information technology of Taiwan attended the opening ceremony of the conference and delivered a speech. Lu Jinbang, deputy director of education science and technology department, read a letter of congratulations on behalf of Li Lu, minister of education science and technology department. Prof. Wang Youwei, chairman of the China Green Building Council, delivered a speech on behalf of China Green Building Council.

Gathering elites in cross-strait and experts from around the world to discuss the construction of human settlements environment from different perspectives

The three-day conference arranged 10 keynote speeches and more than 80 excellent parallel session speeches. Mr. WONG Kam Sing, Secretary for the Environment of HKSARG; Mr. ZHONG Jishou, Secretary-general of Architectural Society of China;  Prof. Ian F.C. SMITH, Professor of Applied Computing and Mechanics Laboratory and School of Architecture, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland; Prof. HO Ming Chin, Professor of Department of Architecture, China University of Technology; Ms. YEUNG Kwong Yim, Deputy Director of Housing (Development & Construction), Hong Kong Housing Authority; Prof. YE Qing, Deputy Director of China Green Building Council; Prof. HENG Chye Kiang, Lum Chang Chair Professor and Former Dean, School of Design & Environment, National University of Singapore; Ms. FUNG Yin Suen, Director, World Green Building Council and  Prof. Wolfgang DOKONAL, Associate Professor of Institute of Urbanism, Graz University of Technology, Austria, gave keynote speeches to discuss the key issues of sustainable living environment construction in the future from the perspectives of scientific and technological development, policy support and behaviour orientation. Dr. Zheng Shiyou, academician of Arup and director of sustainable architecture, and Mr. Deng Jianjun, President of Dongguan Green Building Association, were invited to give speeches on the challenges and practices of building Near-Zero-Carbon communities in the Greater Bay Area and the green building development in Dongguan, where the next conference will be held.

Under the support of more than 60 domestic and overseas green building and related professional institutions, university departments, academic groups and companies, this conference is one of the largest and most extensive green building academic events ever held in the Greater Bay Area. More than 40 university and industrial delegations from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, Italy and other countries and regions attended the conference.

Promoting the exchange of experience in local green building industry based on the development planning of the great bay area and the "The Belt And Road" initiative

In response to the call of the conference to strengthen the cooperation of green building industry in the Greater Bay Area, major green building associations and societies in cross-strait regions including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan sent delegations to the conference to exchange development experience and scientific and technological exploration experience, laying a foundation for the in-depth cooperation between the industry, universities and research circles of green building in the greater bay area. Pay close attention to hot issues concerning the living environment, establish an interdisciplinary dialogue platform and enhance industry-university-research cooperation

The conference set up 12 parallel session speeches, mainly including "tropical, subtropical, hot summer and warm winter area the development of green building and the lasso", "sustainable construction, HVAC, refrigeration and air conditioning engineering technology", "guide the sustainable environment, behaviour and social way to explore", "building performance optimization strategy and technology", "green building assessment system and green building practice", "a performance orientation method in urban microclimate improvement", "sustainable urban planning and the application of information and communication technology", "suitability and sustainable urban space design", etc. The parallel session speeches of paper are rich in content, involving a wide range of sub-topics, speakers from the industry, academia and relevant government departments. With the conference as the platform, scholars, experts and young students from different backgrounds have conducted full communication, which has enriched the exchange results of this topic and broadened the perspective of practitioners in the field of green building.

 

Green campus exhibitions and themed activities will be held for the first time to foster young people's sense of mission to practice sustainable development

Meanwhile, The conference held The "Fun With The Nature exhibition" and themed activities related to green campus (Hereinafter referred to as "Green Campus Forum"), which were supported and participated by more than 100 principals, teachers, students and parents of primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong. Dr. LEUNG Kam Bor, Sherman, Principle, Stewards Pooi Tun Secondary School; Ms. TSUI Chiu Mui, Celine, Principal, ECF Saint Too Canaan College; Mr. TSANG Ka Kau, Thomas, Supervisor/Chairman of Management Committee of Hong Kong Pooi To Primary School, GBL Manager of China Green Building (Hong Kong) Council; Ms. LAI Shuk Yee, Principle of Tai Po Baptist kindergarten; Mr. MAK Siu Fung, Mark, Chairman of Firefly Conservation Foundation; attended and gave a speech, advocacy to promote green environmental education of primary school students, develop sustainable and sustainable life behaviour, inspire young students to green living, the concept of sustainable development thinking, green concept and encourage young students physically will be implemented into life. Students from Stewards Pooi Tun Secondary School, Tai Po Baptist school and Tai Po Baptist Kindergarten contributed vivid performances to the Green Campus Forum. The end of the Green Campus Forum for the green campus ambassador, China Green Building Council (Hong Kong) youth committee members were certificated. Last but not least, China green building (Hong Kong) Council are not only committed to supporting the improvement of the level of green building professionals, but also popularize the concept of green environmental protection among the general public and practice the social responsibility of sustainable development. This green campus BBS is the first professional activity in the international green building field in Hong Kong, which brings young people into the professional ranks and installs environmental protection thinking into the minds of the next generation. Students and children who participated in the green campus activities devoted themselves in the whole process, introduced the exhibition works with passionate and infectious language and action, and expressed their support and love for environmental protection, which was highly praised by school directors, school supervisors, principals, teachers and parents.

With the support of the participants at home and abroad, the conference has achieved fruitful results in discussion and exchange on a number of topics, created a large number of opportunities for cooperation between industry, universities and research circles, and made positive contributions to the construction of a sustainable living environment in the great bay area.
